'Ydi Hi'n Amser?' - 'Is It Time?' 2024

Albwm sy'n gofnod o siwrnau emosiynol blwyddyn heriol!

Yn ymuno a Mered ar y casgliad mae'r sacsoffonydd gwych, Michael Brown, o'r bandiau 'Giant Killers' a 'One Step Behind', y meistr pedal steel, Mark Dunn, Rhys Morris o'r band gwerin cyfoes Avanc sy'n cyfrannu ei waith gitar cywrain i'r trac teitl,  a 'r drymiwr ifanc hynod dalentog,  Llywelyn ap Gwyn,  o'r band ' Cyn Cwsg'.

Dwi'n hynod ddiolchgar unwaith eto i Aled Wyn Hughes - bas, Gwyn Jones - drymiau a John Hywel Morris - organ, am eu cyfraniad i'r albwm hon.

Pleser pur oedd cydweithio efo Jaci Williams, un o lesiau eiconig y SRG, ar yr albwm, gyda hithau'n canu'r brif lais ar 'Un Ddawns Ola'.

Peintiad arbennig gan yr artist Pete Jones, 'Traeth Lafan' sy'n addurno'r clawr.

The songs on this album reflect Mered's emotional journey during a challenging year!

On this collection it was a pleasure to welcome ace saxophonist Michael Brown of 'Giant Killers' and 'One Step Behind', to the band,  acoustic guitarist Rhys Morris of leading comtemporary folk band Avanc,  and drummer Llywelyn ap Gwyn, of  'Cyn Cwsg'.

I'm grateful once again to pedal steel maestro Mark Dunn,  Aled Wyn Hughes on bass, Gwyn Jones - drums and John Hywel Morris - organ.

This collection also features the outstanding voice of Jaci Williams, who provides the lead vocal on 'Un Ddawns Ola'. Cover image is Pete Jones' beautiful painting - 'Traeth Lafan' .

'Lonydd Llydaw' - 'Breton Roads'         2023

Cafodd yr albwm ei ysbrydoli gan ymweliad a'm merch, Magali, a'i theulu yn Llydaw yn haf 2022. Daeth y siwrnau ac atgofion am ymweliadau eraill a'r wlad yn cynnwys taith siop siafins feo Meic Stevens!

The album was inspired by a visit to Brittany to see my daughter Magali and her family in the summer of 2022. The trip brought back memories of other visits, in particular a chaotic tour with Meic Stevens in the 1980s!

A'r yr albwm hwn, mae na gwyfraniadau arbennig gan Elisa Morris ar y delyn a Mared Lloyd ar y ffidil. Dwi eto'n ddiolchgar i Gwyn 'Maffia' Jones ar y drymiau,  Aled Wyn Hughes ar y bas,  Mark Dunn ar y pedal steel a John Hywel Morris ar yr Organ.

This album features notable contributions from Elisa Morris on harp, and Mared Lloyd on ffidl. I'm indebted again to Gwyn 'Maffia Jones' on drums,  Aled Wyn Hughes on bass,  Mark Dunn on pedal steel and John Hywel Morris,  organ.

Review by Mike Kennedy - "Welsh Connections'.

Mered’s fourth album in under three years qualifies him, I’m sure, for the tag ‘prolific’ but more than prolific, Mered is the master of melody. Listening to the four albums in sequence is almost like charting the progression of his ‘return’ to Welsh music. Mered has been making music for some time and has played with some of the biggest names on the scene.

On ‘Lonydd Llydaw’ Mered has used the piano and keys to great effect - but not to the detriment of his guitar (fans will be glad to know) - the musicianship, as always, is of the highest standard and the songs are filled with emotion and passion. Listening to the latest release is a total joy. It’s a joyful album and filled with hope - there’s a lot of looking to the future, in this record, while reflecting on the past.

Another amazing collection of songs, another great album from one of Wales’ rediscovered greats.

ALBUM REVIEW - SYRTHIO'N ÔL

To my everlasting shame I’m not a Welsh speaker and it’s a regret that I wasted my school years determined not to learn my mother tongue - if only we could go back knowing then what we know now......so it was with some trepidation that I put the latest album by guitarist Mered Morris on the turntable as it’s entirely in the Welsh language. I need not have worried. This album, Syrthio’n Ol, transcends language with its beautiful arrangements and sublime musicianship. I can’t remember the last time I heard a more polished recording - in a time where everyone seems to want harsh and brash production it’s a treat to hear something so delightfully balanced and subtle. Mered’s playing is superb as you’d expect but it’s the understated delivery in his vocals that draw you in - there’s an almost yearning quality to his voice that adds an emotion seldom heard in new music these days. On the albums nine tracks Mered is supported by Gwyn Jones (drums), Aled Wyn Hughes (bass) and, his brother, John Hywel Morris (Hammond) and the four of them compliment each other leaving enough space around the instruments so they can ‘breathe’ and be heard.

I can honestly say that I was surprised how much I genuinely loved this album - it’ll be played and played again over the years and you’d be well advised to check it out too ! It’s a great collection of songs delivered to perfection !

10/10
